community greengrocer
come get your veggies!
what is the community greengrocers?
The Community Green Grocers is a resource that aims to provide affordable food to those who need it in Medway. Attached to our community space - 'The Revival' (thrift shop, alternative shopping and community workshops!), the greengrocers opened in February 2026 to reduce food waste and get food to those who need affordable, nutritious food.
Depending on what is available that day, you'll find a mix of fruit and veg, as well as maybe meat, dairy, and ambient food.
There’s nothing fancy here, just plain and simple good food for those who need it.
how much is it?
Come along, and you can fill a carrier bag with vegetables and salad for £2 or a bag for life for £4.
Other everyday staples — including bread, milk, and eggs — will be available from 10p to £1.
Bags are available for 10p, but we encourage you to bring your own wherever possible (reduce and reuse!)
Where & when?
You can find us at 1-9 High Street, Chatham, ME4 4EN (along Chatham INTRA).
The community greengrocers are 11 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday.
As we are volunteer-run, the greengrocers are not open on Bank Holidays.
is it open to anyone?
We aim to reduce food waste and help those who, whilst working, are still struggling to make ends meet. We welcome those who are in need of affordable food. No gatekeeping or means testing - if you are financially struggling, come down and fill your belly.
If you are homeless or need signposting to additional support or resources, do reach out to us here or pop by to talk to one of our team.
can I help?
We would love to be open longer hours, but for that, we need more hands on deck - if you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, get in touch at: volunteer@thriftandthrivemedway.org.uk.
If you are linked to a food manufacturer or distributor and would like to save waste whilst supporting your local community, we would love to hear from you - you can find out all the details here.

Since opening in February 2026, we have diverted on average 6 tonnes of food waste per week - that's the same weight as a large male elephant!
